Summer is a season filled with warmth, adventure, and cherished traditions. As the days stretch longer and the sun shines brighter, families across the country embrace the summer spirit with activities that bring them closer together. Whether it’s a weekly barbecue, a yearly camping trip, or a special event like a neighborhood block party, these traditions create memories that last a lifetime.

At RAW Watersports, we’re all about celebrating the summer by offering activities that make the most of this magical time of year. From exhilarating jet ski rides to peaceful sunset cruises, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the season’s final days. But as much as we love being out on the water, there’s another tradition that holds a special place in our hearts—a tradition that marks the end of summer in our family: making lobster rolls.

Embracing Summer Traditions

Before we dive into our lobster roll tradition, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beauty of summer traditions in general. These rituals are often passed down through generations, each one carrying its own unique flavor and meaning. They’re the touchstones that connect us to our past, and they’re what we look forward to as the season approaches each year.

One of the most beloved summer traditions is the family barbecue. The smell of burgers sizzling on the grill, the sound of laughter echoing through the backyard, and the sight of children playing games epitomize the joy of summer. It’s more than just good food—it’s a time to reconnect with relatives, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company. The annual beach vacation is another classic summer tradition, offering a perfect backdrop for relaxation and fun, whether you’re building sandcastles, playing in the waves, or simply soaking up the sun. Some families have favorite spots they return to year after year, creating a tapestry of memories that intertwines with the familiar sights and sounds of the ocean. For those with a spirit of adventure, the summer road trip is a tradition that never gets old. Hitting the open road, discovering new places, and making spontaneous stops along the way are all part of the experience. It’s a tradition that’s all about exploration and the thrill of the unknown, whether it’s a cross-country journey or a weekend getaway.

Ending Summer with RAW Watersports: Our Favourite Activities

As summer winds down, there’s a sense of urgency to make the most of the remaining days. At RAW Watersports, we understand that feeling, which is why we offer a range of activities that allow you to squeeze every last drop of fun out of the season. For those who crave excitement, there’s nothing like the thrill of jet skiing across the sparkling waters of Lake St. Clair. The rush of speed, the spray of water, and the sheer joy of being out on the open lake make jet skiing a must-do activity before summer ends. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-time rider, our Sea-Doo rentals offer the perfect way to experience the exhilaration of jet skiing. If you’re looking for a more relaxed way to enjoy the water, our guided sunset cruises are the ideal choice. There’s something magical about watching the sun dip below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow over the lake. It’s a peaceful, reflective experience that’s perfect for winding down after a day of fun in the sun, and it’s a wonderful way to create lasting memories with loved ones. For those who enjoy a more active, yet serene, experience, kayaking is a fantastic option. Paddling through the calm waters of Lake St. Clair, you’ll have the opportunity to take in the natural beauty of the area while enjoying a quiet escape. Kayaking is also a great way to connect with nature and enjoy some peaceful, quality time on the water. Our pontoon boat rentals are perfect for those who want to enjoy the lake with friends and family. These spacious boats offer a comfortable and enjoyable way to spend the day, whether you’re fishing, swimming, or just cruising around the lake. Pontoon boats are ideal for gatherings, providing plenty of room for everyone to relax and have a good time.

Our Family’s Summers-End Tradition: The Lobster Roll Feast

As much as we love the water, there’s one tradition that we hold especially dear—the annual lobster roll feast. Every year, on the last weekend of summer, our family gathers around the table for a meal that’s become something of a legend in our household. It’s a tradition that started a few years ago and has since become the highlight of our summer.

The idea was born out of a desire to do something special to mark the end of the season. We wanted a meal that felt indulgent, celebratory, and a little bit over-the-top. After some brainstorming, we landed on the idea of lobster rolls—but not just any lobster rolls. The one that lives rent-free in our heads.  The simplistically,  perfect lobster roll from Luke’s Lobster in NYC. This! This is what we would recreate at home and these would be made with an entire fresh lobster per person. (mic drop)

At first, it seemed a little extravagant (and let’s be honest, it is). But the look of pure joy on the kids’ faces when they see the spread makes it all worth it. There’s something magical about cracking open a lobster, digging into the succulent meat, and piling it high on a buttered, toasted roll. Add a little mayo, some lemon juice, and maybe a sprinkle of chives, and you’ve got a sandwich that’s nothing short of heavenly.

There’s a reason we save this feast for the last weekend of summer—it’s the perfect way to say goodbye to the season. The meal is an event in itself, with everyone gathered around, chatting, laughing, and savoring each bite. The kids love the hands-on aspect of it, from breaking open the shells to assembling their own rolls. And for us adults, it’s a chance to indulge in a little luxury, even if it does make us wince a bit when we see the price tag.

But that’s part of the charm, too. The lobster roll feast is a once-a-year splurge, a way to celebrate the end of summer with something truly special. It’s a tradition that’s become a symbol of our family’s love for the season—and for each other.

A Heartwarming End to Summer

As the sun sets on another summer, we look back on the season with a sense of gratitude for the memories we’ve made. Whether it’s been a day spent on the water with RAW Watersports, a family barbecue in the backyard, or our beloved lobster roll feast, each moment has been a reminder of the joy and togetherness that summer brings.

So, as you prepare to bid farewell to summer, we invite you to embrace your own traditions—or maybe even start a new one. Whether it’s a thrilling adventure on Lake St. Clair or a simple, heartfelt meal with family, these traditions are what make summer so special. And who knows? Maybe next year, you’ll find yourself cracking open a lobster, too, savoring the sweetness of the season one last time.

Here’s to summer, to traditions, and to the memories that make it all worthwhile.
